Remember when we talked with David, a Lokafyer in Tokyo? Well, today we’re going to get a different perspective on this wonderful city thanks to Eduardo, who is also a Lokafyer in Japan’s capital. We hope this is an interesting reading, in which we are able to showcase different opinions and views on what makes Tokyo so breathtaking, while also being reminded of the universally loved things about it. Additionally, we believe this is a great opportunity to see how Eduardo and David’s paths were completely distinct, but still led them to the same beautiful city. Two personalities, backgrounds, lives and stories, but that somehow crossed paths here at Lokafy! Now, let’s meet Eduardo and how he got to Tokyo… It is a really interesting story about finding multiple passions in life, creating a new home and enjoying life to the fullest wherever you go.

How long have you been living in your city and what do you love about it?

I have been living in Tokyo for 38 years. What I love about Tokyo is its multicultural characteristics, the old mingling with the modern. I enjoy Japanese culture in all aspects, and especially cuisine. Tokyo being such a cosmopolitan offer gives us the chance to explore different aspects and cultures.

How did you discover Lokafy and what made you want to become a Lokafyer?

I was contacted by Lokafy through the introduction of somebody who could not take a tour. I did it the first time as a way to help out on a request from Lokafy. Doing the first tour was quite fun, and I got a lot of walking and talking. I really enjoyed it, so I decided to remain as a Lokafyer, and give myself a break because as I show my clients the beautiful places of Tokyo, it is a refreshing feeling for my life.

What are some of the most memorable experiences you've had with travelers through Lokafy?

I had the chance to guide many honeymooners, it is so enriching to share their happiness during the tour, and the chance to learn about new places. On the other hand, I have had the chance to also guide elderly people, and at a different pace explore cultural places and have long conversations about life and cultures.

How has Lokafy changed your perspective on travel and culture?

I have traveled many countries over the world, always on my own, or with family or organizing international events. This walking tour experience made me interested to have some local guide show me the ropes on my first approach to a new place, in order to get the right tips to maximize the enjoyment of such a place.

What are some of the tips or advice that you would give to someone who wants to travel like a local?

Just to be relaxed and rely on the good will of the guide going with you. Most people doing this guiding do it from the heart, and feel very comforted when they see the clients happy and satisfied. It is true that nobody is a gold medal for everybody, and there are many things the guide will not know, or will not be able to do because of distance or time reasons, please be understanding, and enjoy your time.

When you’re not working for Lokafy, what do you like to do for fun?

I like the sea, so going to the beach is a great way to relax, also sports, so when I am on my own I do all my movements on a road bicycle. And of course, I enjoy trying different types of food, in slow cooking, relaxed atmosphere and good company.

Any final comments for travelers visiting your city?

If you come to Tokyo you will be pampered by very good and fun people. I am sure the guide offer goes from young to old, all genders and backgrounds, but I am sure, the person guiding you will give you the best of herself/himself. So enjoy the ride.
