Depending on where you came from, getting to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia must have been quite the journey! Fear not, KL is Malaysia’s capital and largest city, with lots to offer! Although one day is not ideal to see all of KL, it is enough to squeeze in time to see the city’s amazing scenery. With many activities to do and places to see, we’ve compiled a list of the best Kuala Lumpur has to offer, from restaurants to places, all within 24 hours!

 Quick Exploration of Batu Caves

KL 3

Start your day exploring Kuala Lumpur’s city centre with a train ride from KL Sentral to Batu Caves. The train ride should take approximately 30 minutes and it is definitely worth your time. It is better to do it in the morning, considering it is one of KL’s top attractions, so getting there early is an added bonus to avoid large crowds. There’s a huge limestone outcrop located north of KL that features many caves, temples and Hindu shrines. The main attraction is the statue of the Hindu God Murugan at the entrance. You’ll also find a cavern with a 272-step climb. This is a great cardio workout, right? Please note that no matter what time you visit, there is almost always monkeys around. Be careful not to feed them or have snacks out in the open. The monkeys will grab them, and we wouldn’t want that to happen.

KL Bird Cave

This park is home to the world’s largest free-flight walk-in birdcage. To get here, you have to go back to KL Sentral, where it’s about a five-minute train ride to Pasar Seni. The bird park would be around a 20-minute walk from the station. The expansive park is located in Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens, home to roughly 200 species and over 3,000 birds. There are four sections and the first two have birds flying freely in the birdcage, which is representative of their natural habitat.

Brickfields (aka Kuala Lumpur's Little India)

KL 4

With all that sightseeing and walking, you must have worked up quite an appetite! If you’re looking for a quick, local and friendly-on-your-wallet place to eat, look no further than Brickfields (aka Kuala Lumpur’s Little India). You can hop in an Uber or taxi and take some time to explore, before figuring out which restaurant you want to attend. They have satisfying banana leaf meals, which consists of steamed rice and a variety of curies on top of a banana leaf. Another local favorite is Vishal Food and Catering.

Islamic Arts Museum

This museum is filled with Islamic arts from around the world! There is Islamic artifacts, along with stunning architecture. They have an extensive collection that includes pottery, carpets, jewellery, decorative arts and many more! Now that your brain is filled with culture, you can make your way on foot to the Central Market for souvenirs! If you’re hungry, you can grab a snack from the market’s food court at the top floor.

Dinner at Petaling Street (aka KL's Chinatown)

If you walk shortly from the Central Market to Petaling Street (aka KL’s Chinatown), you can spend time browsing through the kiosks where they sell everything from t-shirts, to bags and electronics. If you didn’t grab a snack from the market’s food court, you won’t have to look too far to find a place to eat. The surrounding areas near Petaling street is considered as “food paradise.” The primary options are Chinese food and it is very affordable and tasty. 😉
