Don’t you think that time is passing by too quickly? Just yesterday, we were enjoying summer time; its heat, sunny days and nightly parties were all we could talk about. But now, the weather has changed, the bright green of the trees has started to disappear and we have swapped cold beverages such as cocktails for the classic pumpkin spice latte. All of this just means that fall has arrived! And this is something really important when we talk about vacationing and traveling. Of course, we know that summer is most people’s favorite time to hop on a plane and go to a paradisiacal beach (that’s why it is peak season in so many different parts of the world), but waiting until seasons change is not a bad idea at all. Autumn is a wonderful time to watch fall foliage and enjoy great weather (it isn’t too hot nor too cold yet) and depending on where you are, there’ll be plenty of outdoor activities to make your trip a magical time.

There are plenty of advantages to traveling in fall, which is off season, because it means that most things are less expensive, less crowded and hopefully less chaotic. Since part of the world is beginning to experience the first bouts of autumn, we thought that we could talk a little bit about certain idyllic fall destinations… The places that best capture the essence of this season, and that will allow visitors to enjoy everything that makes fall so special, including Halloween! We tried to think about every possible taste and distinct activities including nature, culture and leisure. So, don’t stop reading now and when we finish off, let us know if some of these places are in your bucket list of dream fall destinations.

USA

Yellowstone National Park, United States:

The world’s oldest national park is always going to be a great destination, but there’s no doubt that visiting during early fall is going to be a breathtaking experience. You have more than 3400 square miles filled with natural wonders: 67 species of mammals, geysers, hot springs and all of the nature that you can imagine exists in such a complex ecosystem. With the beginning of autumn, the elk become more visible around Mammoth Hot Springs, and as the season progresses, other animals such as bears also start to roam around, giving you the opportunity to watch them (from a safe distance, of course). Additionally, early fall brings a placid weather, perfect for hikes and journeys through more than 1000 miles of trails. Now, the fact that we say early autumn is key, because several of the park's roads close from late fall through the spring, and early snow can affect your visit as well. If you really want to breathe in the wilderness of Yellowstone without all of the hustle and bustle of peak season in summer, you have to be very mindful of when you’re visiting. Fall can be a great option if you choose your dates carefully. Ready for one of the world’s most beautiful sceneries?

Anywhere in Mexico:

Travel lovers will know that Mexico is a pretty popular destination, with people constantly falling in love with its beaches, natural landscapes and culture. Being able to taste authentic Mexican food and enjoy the vibrant energy of its cities, with mariachis’ music as the perfect soundtrack, is a dream shared by lots of travelers around the world. But, did you know that a great time to visit is during the fall? Thankfully, by this time the rainy season has ended and the temperatures are milder, which means that you’ll be able to walk all you want and explore without worrying about the weather not cooperating. Additionally, since traveling peak season in Mexico doesn’t kick off until December, you won’t feel trapped in a sea of tourists. Summer’s gone, so the beaches are going to be less crowded and hardcore party-goers will be long gone. However, what stands out the most about visiting Mexico during this time is the fact that Mexicans celebrate the Day of the Dead, and if there’s anything to know about it, is that it is one of the most moving and beautiful commemorations in the world. Celebrating the life of those who left us is a wonderful gift that Mexicans hold close to their hearts, and hopefully, you’ll do so if you are lucky to witness this day.

Guanajuato, Mexico

In Mexico, the arrival of fall signals the proximity of the Day of the Dead, an amazing and touching way of remembering those who have left us.

Transylvania, Romania:

As you can see, we’re traveling all around the world! And honestly, how could we leave Transylvania out of our blog, if it has that charming, mysterious and slightly frightening atmosphere that goes so well with autumn. The Carpathian Mountains are a mesmerizing sight throughout the year, but the autumn foliage gives them an indescribable beauty that you simply have to see to believe. Add Gothic castles and all of the dark myths that surround the area, and you have the perfect Halloween destination. By now, we know that the connection between Bran Castle and Dracula is not very strong, but we still live by the illusion that it is Dracula’s Castle, and no one is going to argue about it, especially during the fall. Transylvania’s natural scenery is worthy of a fairytale, and between its dense forests, lush pastures and meadows, you’ll have access to some of the world’s most beautiful views. A little bit of history, culture, lots of nature and dark and twisted stories, are some of the things that you’ll find when visiting Romania, and more specifically, Transylvania.

Bran Castle

In between the dense forests of the Carpathian Mountains you will find Bran Castle, an iconic sight that reminds us of Count Dracula.

Vermont, United States:

To finish our short international trip of the best fall destinations, we thought we could talk about one of the US’ favorite places during autumn. Obviously, we’re talking about Vermont, where fall foliage is a complete spectacle and one of the most important events of the year. And how could it not be, if around 80% of the state is forested, and thus, during fall landscapes turn into a golden and ochre work of art. As if that wasn’t enough, Vermont has also made a name for itself thanks to its fall activities, such as apple picking, visits to pumpkin patches, tasting artisanal cheeses and enjoying a beer at a local brewery. Throughout autumn, there are plenty of festivals and events to celebrate fall foliage, Halloween, arts and crafts and everything that locals love to do during this season! So, regardless of the time of fall you visit, there’ll be plenty of activities to keep you entertained. However, for those eager to watch forests turn golden and ochre, then pay attention: between mid-September and mid-October, foliage starts to change its colors (firstly in northern areas and higher elevations) and over the next weeks the colors begin spreading across valleys and through the south. There are resources to keep an eye on how the foliage is unfolding, since it can vary depending on weather conditions. With all of this information you can now arrange your itinerary as you please.

Vermont

In places like Vermont, where around 80% of the state is forested, seasons like fall are simply breathtaking.

Don’t you feel excited about what fall has to offer? Of course, every season has its own charms and there’s plenty of reasons why people prefer one or the other for traveling. But, it is also true that autumn has its advantages (cheaper trips, not so crowded places) that make it pretty attractive. With this blog we wanted to give you an idea of where you can go now that the leaves’ colors begin to change. And as you can see… you can go anywhere you want! From North America to Europe or Central America, there’ll always be options. And we didn’t start to cover the places perfect for those who are not ready to let summer go just yet. Nonetheless, the conclusion still is: no matter the time of the year, you’ll be able to travel, have fun and beautiful adventures and enjoy new experiences.
