1. Hi Lara, tell us a bit about yourself!
I’m Lara, born and raised in Munich, but living in Buenos Aires for 9 years. I hold both a bachelor´s degree in Political Science from the University of Buenos Aires and in Political Science & Public Administration from the University of Hagen (Germany).
I work as a public relations officer at the Goethe-Institut in Buenos Aires. The Goethe-Institut is the Federal Republic of Germany’s cultural institute, active worldwide, promoting the study of the German language abroad and encouraging international cultural exchange and relations.
I also work as a coordinator of the sponsorship area at SOS Children´s Villages Argentina, one of the world's largest non-governmental organizations, working to meet the needs and protect the interests and rights of children and young people.
2. Why did you decide to join Lokafy?
Many years ago I fell in love with Buenos Aires and for me, it’s a pleasure to share this love with other people. I’m also a little bit nerdy about South American history and politics, so for me, it’s great to have people to share these stories with.
I think it’s always important to know the political and historical background of every city and country, also to understand the specific cultural context. So I’m happy to have an interested audience :)
3. What do you love most about your city?
Without a doubt, I love the cultural life of Buenos Aires! Buenos Aires is the city with the most bookstores and libraries in the world (Amazon doesn’t exist in Argentina) and every urban district has its own theatre. Every week there is another film festival or art exhibition. There is a huge diversity of cultural activities and most of them are for free.
Buenos Aires is also a very LGBTIQ-friendly city. Gay marriage has been legalized since 2010 and since 2011, you can freely choose your own gender and put it into your ID card without many bureaucracies.
It’s an open-minded, cultural and artistic city - how can you not fall in love with that city?
4. If someone comes to visit you, where would you take them to eat?
“Buenos Aires Green Eat” in Palermo or Belgrano - a MUST for vegetarians/vegans and “Sabe la Tierra”, another MUST for vegetarians in San Telmo.
“Charlone” is a beautiful pub/bar with classic food (burgers, salads, sandwiches, etc.) with the best beer in town and a nice atmosphere, visited by the locals and neighbors of Colegiales (so no tourists!).
5. When you're not working for Lokafy, what do you like to do for fun?
I’m an urban gardener, cinephile, art lover, big fan of any type of culture, co-founder of the Columbian Film festival in Buenos Aires and when I’m not in Buenos Aires I’m traveling through South America and Europe.
Thanks Lara for sharing with us about your city of Buenos Aires! We at Lokafy appreciate you so much!
