Tell us a bit about yourself. What inspired you to become a Lokafyer?
I’ve always wanted to be a guide for foreign visitors in my city. Sharing Turin's beauty, history, and hidden gems with others is something I've always been passionate about, so becoming a Lokafyer was a natural fit for me.
What do you love most about the city you guide in?
What I love most about Turin is its smooth and relaxed atmosphere. The many cafés, stunning architecture, and countless stories that make up the fabric of the city are truly captivating.
Can you share a personal story about what led you to live in your current city?
I was born here and have spent most of my life in Turin. Though I’ve worked in England, France, and Spain, I always find my way back to my hometown. For me, Turin is the perfect city to be a photographer, which is my main profession.
Can you share a memorable experience or moment from one of your tours?
I once guided a wonderful couple who wanted to explore our big market. We discovered the fruits and products of the region together, and as we talked, we realized we had a lot in common. It was a truly special experience.
What do you think makes a tour truly exceptional?
The way you interact with people and your ability to "catch the moment" make a tour truly exceptional. It's about making connections and creating lasting memories.
How do you prepare for your tours to ensure they are unique and engaging for travelers?
I start by reading the booking request and checking the age of the travelers. Then, I tailor the walk to suit their preferences. I have three different types of tours that I can offer, and I choose the one that best fits the group.
What is your favorite part of being a Lokafyer?
Connecting with people and helping them discover the true essence of Turin is my favorite part of being a Lokafyer. It’s a joy to share my city with others.
Have you learned anything surprising or unexpected from the travelers you've guided?
Yes, I’ve learned that everyone seems to love Italian coffee! It’s a universal favorite among the travelers I’ve guided.
Can you describe a challenging situation you encountered during a tour and how you handled it?
The only challenging situation I’ve faced was a stormy rain during a tour. Fortunately, Turin has many arches, and I always carry an umbrella, so we managed to stay dry and continue the tour.
What feedback from travelers has been the most rewarding or impactful for you?
I'm often told that I'm a good storyteller, which is very rewarding. It reassures me that I'm doing a good job in bringing Turin’s stories to life for travelers.
What local hidden gems or off-the-beaten-path spots do you love to share with travelers?
I enjoy showing travelers some of Turin’s classic cafés and a small, old commercial gallery. These spots offer a glimpse into the city’s history and charm.
Can you describe your favorite neighborhood and why you love it?
I believe the city center is the best neighborhood. It’s where the heart of Turin beats strongest, with its rich history, beautiful architecture, and vibrant atmosphere.
Do you have any favorite local traditions or events that you recommend to visitors?
There is a local tradition that’s a bit of a secret—something travelers will discover during the tour. As for events, I highly recommend the Art Weeks in November. It's a must-see!
How do you tailor your tours to cater to different types of travelers (e.g., families, solo travelers, couples)?
I have three different types of tours that I can adapt to fit the travelers' needs. My goal is to involve them in the history of Turin and ensure they have an engaging and enjoyable experience.
What advice would you give to new Lokafyers to help them deliver exceptional experiences?
My advice would be to immerse yourself in the history of your city. The more you know, the more you can share. And most importantly, keep walking, keep looking at the buildings, and enjoy the 18 km of arches that Turin has to offer!
Do you have any tips for visitors on how to make the most of their trip?
Walk around, look at the buildings, and take in the atmosphere. Turin is a city best enjoyed on foot, so keep exploring!
