Milan, Italy is what I like to call “fashion heaven,” simply because it is the fashion capital of the world! Milan is the home of Fashion Week, consisting of major brands: Valentino, Gucci, Versace, Prada, and many others! In terms of urban area, Milan is Italy’s largest city, with a population of roughly 3.1 million. With many activities to do and places to see, we’ve compiled a list of the best Milan has to offer, from restaurants to places, all within 24 hours!
Piazza del Duomo
Begin your day visiting Milan’s main symbol: the breathtaking Cathedral. The Cathedral is arguably the most admirable and stunning Gothic architecture in all of Italy. It is built with pink-hued white marble from Lake Maggiore. You can climb to the rooftop and enjoy the panoramic view with a loved one or with your friend(s). Also, depending on what time of year you visit, you can catch the sunset. 😉
Take a Stroll in the Brera Neighbourhood
Once you are finished admiring the lovely architectural wonders of the Cathedral, you can take a stroll in the Brera neighbourhood. This neighbourhood is the epitome of romance in Europe, so if you’re enjoying Milan with your significant other, it’s a great spot! The buildings scream elegance, and on every corner paved street, there’s an old-world pasticceria (pastry), fine restaurant, or a luxurious retailer. It is important to take the route via Galleria Vittorio Emanuelle II. Italy is known for their Renaissance-style structure, which is one of the main reasons why people love travelling here! There is a vaulted glass dome roof that is awe-inspiring and worth the visit (Duomo Di Milano).
You’re Hungry Right??
All this walking and sight-seeing has made you hungry, right? Well, don’t worry, I got you covered when it comes to authentic, classic Italian cuisine. Brera has many delicious restaurants to choose from that is within everyone’s budgets and tastes. There is a small Milanese restaurant called Latteria. This place has been owned by Chef Arturo Maggi since 1965 and serves many seasonal and traditional northern Italian dishes. There’re only eight tables; they do not take reservations or bookings and are not open on weekends. Rigilo is another Brera restaurant, but a more formal affair.
Blue Note
If you’re a fan of music, specifically Jazz music, you’ll enjoy heading to the Blue Note located in Isola. This is north of Brera. Isola is one of the coolest new places to live because of its cheap rent and love for the arts. This drew in musicians and artists from creative industries to Isola. Isola is home to many graffiti murals, bars, and unique shops, which is reflective of the neighbourhood. Blue Note is “the Italian brother of New York’s famous jazz club.” Because of their fantastic international programme, weekend shows sell out very quickly. If you do get lucky though, you can get a ticket for an 11 pm showing. If you’re a fan of music, this would be an amazing show to attend!
You Cannot Leave Milan Without Shopping!
Shopping in Milan is a dream for some, considering it is the fashion capital of the world! Depending on the type of person that you are, shopping can take a very long time because the more items that you see, the more you want to buy! So, if you want to shop till you drop like they say, the best place to visit is Via Monte Napoleone. This location is widely considered to be the most luxurious and fashionable shopping street not just in Italy, but the world! It is the home of boutiques stocked with designer products, that will leave you yearning for more. These items include: Prada, Gucci, Versace, etc. You can thank me later.
24 hours is not much time to explore an entire city, especially the architectural beauty and fashion boutiques of Milan, but having an itinerary is always useful to make your lives wandering around easier.
